Frequently Asked Questions
'All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming.' Helen Keller.
What happens in the first session?
I'll meet with you in my counselling room in Lewes, just outside of Brighton and Hove, in East Sussex. Our session lasts for 50 minutes. We will go through a counselling contract and agree how we will work together. I'll find out a little bit about your history and why you are coming to see me. You'll find out about how I work and see how it might be to come to see me for counselling
Are the sessions confidential?
Generally what you say to me in the room stays in the room or may be discussed with my supervisor who is also bound by confidentiality. However there are some exceptions to this, mostly due to concerns around you being a danger to yourself or others. This will all be clearly explained to you when you meet with me.
How long do I need to see you for?
It is difficult to estimate how many sessions you might need. Often people commit to 6-12 sessions then we can review where you are at. Some clients prefer to work in a more open ended way or have more complex issues and so may require more sessions. Sessions last for 50 minutes usually at the same time each week. We will continually review our work to make sure that you are happy with how things are going.
What happens if I need to miss a session?
You need to give 48 hours' notice if you are going to miss a session otherwise full payment is required.
